Are you interested in supporting social and environmental justice work on campus and in the community?
Consider joining OPIRG Guelph’s Board!
What are the OPIRG Board Elections/Nominations?
As a not-for-profit organization OPIRG is directed by a group of student and community Board members. These members are democratically elected and serve as the main decision-making body for the organization. It’s an important role!
Why become a Board member?
- No experience needed — it’s a learning environment and training will be provided
- Be a part of planning OPIRG events & bringing them into fruition
- Meet like-minded, (rad)ical folks!
- Connect with other not-for-profit community organizations across Ontario
- Develop useful skills, gain important experience, & add an impressive role to your resume
- Enjoy a free dinner, on us, each Board meeting you attend!
In order to be elected to the Board, candidates need to:
1. Complete and return a Nomination/Application Form no later than March 22nd at 5pm.
2. Complete and return a Board Candidate’s Questionnaire that will be posted on OPIRG’s website, no later than March 22nd at 5pm.
3. Attend a mandatory Candidate’s Meeting with the Chief Returning Officer.
How to apply/get nominated for the Board?
1. Email the Chief Returning Officer, Husnain, at cro@opirgguelph.org to find out if you’re eligible to run, and to get the Nomination/Application Form and Board Candidate’s Questionnaire.
2. Fill out the required personal information and sign the pledge to uphold our mandate on the back.
3. Get the form signed by 5 OPIRG members (most full-time undergrad and grad students are members, as are community members who have filled out a membership form). If someone is not sure if they are a member they can check with the CRO.
4. Send the filled out Nomination/Application Form Board Candidate’s Questionnaire back to Husnain at cro@opirgguelph.org no later than 5pm on Wednesday March 22nd.
OPIRG Guelph welcomes the contributions that individuals from marginalized communities bring to our organization, and invites Indigenous people, people of colour, poor and working class people and those on social assistance, women, LGBTQI2S+ people; single parents, members of ethnic minorities, immigrants, people from non-academic backgrounds and people with disabilities to apply.
