GRCGED and OPIRG Guelph invite you to the third workshop of the 2016 Summer Institute:
Truth and Decolonization
This participatory workshop will provide an introduction to historical and ongoing forms of colonization and assimilation policies. We will also explore decolonization, from an Anishinaabek perspective, as a basis for understanding inherent rights and responsibilities. Lastly, how Indigenous ways of knowing and being inform strategies for truth telling and reconciliation will be discussed.
Facilitator Bio:
Sâkihitwoin Awâsis is an Otipemisiw and Anishinaabe Two-Spirit land defender and spoken word artist from the pine marten clan. As a writer she has contributed to the books A Line In The Tar Sands, and Forever Loved: Exposing the Hidden Crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls in Canada. Her work at Atlohsa Native Family Healing Services draws connections between the health and well-being of Indigenous families and the Earth. She is continually inspired by acts of decolonization, resurgence, and community healing.
