Get Engaged: Exploring Opportunities for Solidarity with Local BIPOC Organizers

 

Join us online for “Get Engaged: Exploring Opportunities for Solidarity with Local BIPOC Organizers” on November 29th, from 1:00 – 2:20 pm. This virtual event will feature three community-based activists and frontline workers who represent various Guelph organizations and communities working towards social and environmental justice.

🎙️ Kween is the CEO and owner of The Kween Company and Co-owns The Heels Academy. Kween is the leader of Solidarity March in Support of BLM in 2020 and the Executive Director and Social Justice Initiatives Coordinator for Guelph Black Heritage Society. Kween is also a host and community producer on Rogers Channel 20 with “Diverse and Converse”, a BIPOC panel discussion. Kween held a Residency with Guelph Dance in 2020/2021, currently holds the title Woman of the Year 2020, nominee for @RBC Women of Influence 2021, and Finalist for Women of Inspiration 2021.

🎙️Bella (she/they) is a queer, fat, neurodivergent and non-binary brown babe. They are active on and off campus volunteering with Guelph Queer Equality, QTPOC, Out On The Shelf, Guelph Pride, sitting on committees and boards as part of their role as an elected CSA board member. They support themselves through selling their fiber art and occasionally running anti-oppression and fat justice workshops. They love to bring all their passions together to learn and work towards community health and justice.

🎙️Natali Euale Montilla (She/Her), is a Venezuelan immigrant to Turtle Island, so-called Canada. She is of mixed ancestry from Cuicas territory in the Andes of Venezuela and from the Mediterranean. Her organizing and work is centered on exposing and dismantling all levels of oppression and violence towards Black and Indigenous folks and People of Color (BIPOC). She is a long-term organizer primarily involved in anti-extra-activism/anti-capitalist struggles, Indigenous-led land defense movements and migrant justice.

This event is being run by the Cultural Diversity Office, Student Experience; the Department of Geography, Environment, & Geomatics; and OPIRG Guelph.
