Hi everyone!
OPIRG Guelph’s Social and Environmental Symposium is this weekend! This year’s theme is “Bridging Communities. Re-centering Movements” and it’s going to be AMAZING. For information about the weekend, check out the website: http://symposium.opirgguelph.org/ or the Facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/OPIRG.Guelph.Symposium/. The schedule has just been posted, as well as panelist bios.
Thank you to everyone who has been working so hard to make this happen, and to everyone who has signed up to help out at the event. We still have quite a few volunteer openings. If you`re coming to the symposium please consider taking a shift for a couple of hours in one (or a few) of the following areas:
Registration and Information Table staffer
– register and orient Symposium attendees, panelists, volunteers, and the media
– direct folks to the people or places they’re looking for
– answer questions and trouble-shoot
Room Maintenance
– keep the food room clean and stocked
– keep the washrooms clean and stocked
– keep the Collective Care space clean and stocked; make sure folks in there have what they need
– check in on the child care room; make sure the caregivers have what they need
– check in on the Rebel Knowledge Fair room; make sure the tablers have what they need
– be available at the information table when you’re not otherwise occupied, to run errands and trouble-shoot
Active Listeners
– be available for people who may need support during the Symposium
* for those with training and experience only
Child Care
– help take care of and entertain the kids!
* materials and programming will be provided
OPIRG table staffer
* for people who are familiar with OPIRG and the work we do
Setup
* early Saturday morning
– carrying stuff from the OPIRG office to War Memorial Hall and or MacKinnon
– arranging the rooms (moving tables and chairs)
– putting up signs
Cleanup
* Sunday late afternoon
– cleaning up the rooms, wiping down the tables and taking out the garbage
– re-arranging the rooms (moving tables and chairs back to their original setup)
– taking down the signs
– carrying stuff from MacKinnon back to the OPIRG office
We would appreciate as many Setup and Cleanup volunteers as possible – many hands make light work!
For the other five areas (Registration, Rooms, Child Care, Active Listeners, and OPIRG table), we’re asking people to take on two hour shifts, that are based on the symposium schedule. You can see the schedule and information on the website, but in a nutshell, the shift times would be as follows:
Saturday 19th
12:45-2:45
2:45-4:45
4:45-6:45
Sunday 20th
9:45-11:45
11:45-1:45
We also have two additional 3 hour long child care shifts: 9:45-12:45 on Saturday and 1:45-4:45 on Sunday, and one additional 3 hour long registration table shift on Saturday 9:00-12:00.
Please email me at volunteer@opirgguelph.org, or call me at the office at 519.824.2091 to let me know your interest and availability. Thanks so much!
cheers
