Take Back the Night!
Thursday, September 24th @ 6pm
Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis and community partners will be holding our 28th annual Take Back the Night march and rally on September 24th, 2015 at Marianne’s Park in Guelph. Every year, Take Back the Night marches are held internationally to raise awareness and foster solidarity against sexual violence.
We will be having a rally at 6:00 pm in Marianne’s Park, featuring music, speakers and activities.
This will be followed by a march at 7:00 pm through downtown Guelph and back to the park. We would like to create a strong presence on the street and exhibit our message of ending sexual violence to passersby. It is crucial to engage community members and by demonstrating, we hope to help them understand the impact of sexual violence on the community while inspiring them to help take action in bringing it to an end.
We recognize that sexual violence has an impact on all folks and requires us all to be part of the solution. Many people are survivors, all of whose voices are essential to hear. For these reasons, Guelph-Wellington’s Take Back the Night 2015 is welcoming people of all and no genders to participate in the rally and march side by side.
Back at the park, we will hold a small vigil.
To wrap up this evening of empowerment and solidarity, we invite participants to attend the official Take Back the Night after party at NV Kitchen + Bar! This year’s after party is intended to bring together like-minded folks for a night of stories, laughter, and planning new ways to make our community safer.
