University Centre (UC) Courtyard, U of G.
The Board of Governors (BOG) Finance Committee is meeting to discuss a University of Guelph 2015-2016 budget that will include tuition fee increases of over $200 per student, and nearly $10 million in budget cuts.
These cuts are part of the $25,400,000 in cuts to the university’s budget being implemented from 2014 to 2017.
Today, students are more indebted than any generation in Canadian history while budget cuts undermine the quality of our education and our future. Classes are too big, online courses are multiplying, and job security of workers on campus is being attacked. As this happens, Senior Administrators make hundreds of thousands of dollars. In 2011 and 2012 the University had surpluses of $25 million and $26 million.
The BOG is the highest decision making body at the University of Guelph. They make the biggest decisions at UoG about university budgets, tuition fees, and what your university looks like.
If 14 of 24 BOG members are from high up in the private sector representing banks and corporations, how do they know what students need? Why do they decide the shape the university?
Enough is enough! Make noise with the Pay More Get Less Campaign in the UC Courtyard and have your voices be heard! Cutting the cuts and stopping the hikes will put pressure on the Provincial Government to increase public funding, and implement a freeze in tuition fees across the province!
