On 17 August 2017, the Board of Directors here at OPIRG Guelph have approved the following statement to provide response to concerns from and desire for engagement of members of our community. Our intention here is to provide clarity in how members affiliated with formal organizations, corporations, or workplaces take part in our event spaces. In brief, the statement asks that:
- While you may come with your colleagues, that you participate as community members only, but feel free to come together!
- That you don’t seek to represent any formal organization, corporation, or workplace at OPIRG events.
- That all participants avoid bringing any organizationally branded clothing or promotional material to OPIRG events.
- That participation in such events not be for used for any promotional purposes.
As the Board notes in our statement, however, we look forward to see you there and want to see as many volunteers in our spaces as we can!

Hello there! Thank you so much for taking an interest in this event! As members of this community, we’re thrilled that you’re interested in this project. Unfortunately, in the past, some groups have attempted to use our events as promotional opportunities. In response, our policy is to encourage folks to participate as community members only. As members of the public, we’re happy to have you participate! You’re also welcome to come with as many of your coworkers as you can wrangle together. However, we kindly ask that anyone who participates does so only as individual community members and not as representatives of any formal organization, corporation, or workplace. To this end, we ask that all participants avoid bringing any organizationally branded clothing or promotional material to the event (Trust us, it will still be fun!). We also ask that participation in this event not be for used for any promotional purposes. Thank you for respecting our wishes. We’re very much looking forward to seeing you there!
